Civil War History and General Commentary on Issues of Import or Not.

by Daniel Mallock

Yesterday, I posted a blog post about Senator Barack Obama’s neighborhood. I suggested, quite strongly, that the building directly across the street from his residence is a mosque. I was very much in error.

I want to set the record straight and apologize for having inadvertently mislead anyone.

The building across the street, that appears to have a minaret is not a mosque but is actually a synagogue.

This is KAM Isaiah Israel. It is a synagogue in the “byzantine” architectural style. You can see their web site here.  Others have mentioned this shul, but I missed it.  The Jerusalem Post had an article about Senator Obama in which the shul is mentioned.  A Chicago tourist site offers more photos and details about the neighborhood and the shul here. According to the Hyde Park Historical Society, KAM Isaiah Israel, “houses the oldest Jewish congregation in Chicago.”

I posted the original piece (now removed from the blog) based on sources that appeared reliable but were not. Here is a photo from satellite showing the Senator’s home and directly across the street, the shul.

I apologize to the readers of the blog.

I’ve made no attempt at hiding my opposition to  Senator Obama on this blog. I do not want him to win because I

  • do not agree with his political philosophy
  • do not approve of his radical associates
  • do not believe that he is qualified or ready to be President
  • do not believe he has been fully honest or forth-coming
  • believe his extreme liberalism is not good for the country
  • believe his economic plan is not good for the country
  • believe that his running mate is not a good choice for President
  • do not believe that an extreme liberal agenda is good for the country

I believe that Senator Obama is not the best candidate for President. But I want him to lose the election not on account of any misinformation or falsehoods presented about him or his platform or positions by the opposition, and certainly not on account of any inadvertent misinformation presented on this blog.

My purpose in this blog is to entertain, and to educate as much as it is within my limited ability to do. Accuracy is very important to me. If I make an error I will correct it, and let you know. If I miss something I hope that you will let me know. In this case, I did the detailed research after the post was posted, and that is a failure on my part for which I now apologise.

Daniel
